GENERAL INFORMATION

The 42nd Session of the Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses was postponed from November 2020 to November 2021. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the CCNFSDU42 will be held virtually on 19 and 22 – 25 November 2021 (12:00 – 15:00 CET). Report adoption is scheduled for 1 December (12:00 – 15:00 CET).

All work scheduled for consideration by CCNFSDU42 is continuing through the mechanisms agreed by CCNFSDU41 (e.g. EWG within the mandates given by CCNFSDU41).

FAO FINAL DRAFT REPORTS

Two FAO reports are available on the right column. One is the Review of derivation methods for dietary intake reference values for older infants and young children and the second on Protein Quality Assessment in Follow-up Formula for Young Children.

WEBINAR

Preparation for CCNFSDU42: 23 September 2021, 13:00 – 14:30 (CEST)

CCNFSDU42 is scheduled November 2021. The last time the Committee met was in November 2019. A lot has happened in the meanwhile and to help prepare for the upcoming CCNFSDU42, a webinar was held on 23 September 2021 from 13:00 – 14:30 (CEST) to provide an update on work and the key issues related to review of the Standard for follow-up formula, guidelines for ready-to-use therapeutic foods and General Principles for the establishment of NRVs-R for persons aged 6 – 36 months

INFORMAL DISCUSSION ON RUTF

An online informal discussion group on RUTF (technical issues) has been established and will be managed by the South Africa and Uganda. The aim of the group is to have informal discussions on the bracketed texts in the Draft Guidelines for Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Foods, viz. the “essential fatty acids levels” and the “magnesium to calcium ratio” with a view to facilitate discussions at CCNFSDU42. Members/observers interested in joining this discussion group can register at: https://forum.codex-alimentarius.net/index.php.

South Africa and Uganda have posted further information on the forum. Comments are invited by 9 April 2021.

The outcomes of the discussion group will be made available as a CRD for consideration by CCNFSDU42.
