GENERAL INFORMATION

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has made it impossible to convene physical meetings and therefore severely impacted the Codex calendar of sessions in 2020. This has also affected CAC43, which could not meet physically on the dates originally announced.

The Codex Secretariat received clearance from FAO and WHO to convene a virtual session of CAC43 on 24, 25, 26 September, and 12, 19 October 2020, subject to the endorsement of two-thirds of the Members of the Codex Alimentarius Commission. As more than two-thirds endorsed the proposed way forward by the deadline of 23 August 2020, CAC43 will be conducted by virtual means. The virtual session of the Commission has been enabled by the agreement of the Membership to the suspension of Certain Rules of Procedure, details of which can be downloaded here.

CAC43 discussions will take place on 24, 25, 26 September, 12 October and 19 October 2020, 12.00-15.00 CET.
Adoption of the report will take place on 5th and 6th November 2020, 12.00-15.00 CET.

GUIDANCE FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE VIRTUAL CAC

The Codex Secretariat has prepared guidance for members and observers to facilitate the smooth running of CAC43. An online meeting is organized for 11 September 2020, 12.00-14.30 CET to introduce the guidance.
