Professor Parvez Haris, Professor of Biomedical Science at De Montfort University in Leicester, in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK), will present a lecture on food safety issues related to rice for World Food Safety Day.

Rice is an important food staple worldwide, but concerns have been raised in recent years regarding the high concentration of toxic chemicals in rice, including arsenic. Professor Haris and his team were at the forefront of research into the potential risks to human health of arsenic in rice.

Professor Haris’s lecture will address how to reduce the risk of exposure to toxic chemicals in rice for safe consumption of this popular cereal.
