Training on Codex food standards and antimicrobial resistance held for food producers in Mongolia
On 4 October 2024, a training session on "Codex Alimentarius International Food Standards and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)" was organized by the FAO-implemented and Republic of Korea-funded Action to Support Implementation of Codex AMR Texts (ACT) project, in collaboration with the Mongolian Food Industry Union. The event took place at the "Suu" joint-stock company, with the participation of more than 50 representatives from the food production and import sectors.
The primary objective of the training was to enhance participants' knowledge and understanding of foodborne AMR and to emphasize the importance of applying Codex standards to ensure food safety, protect public health, and promote fair trade.
Key topics covered during the training included:
- The importance of Codex standards: participants were educated on the necessity of adopting Codex standards, guidelines, and codes of practice, as well as the roles and responsibilities of food producers in ensuring their implementation.
- Public health protection: information was shared on how to prevent antimicrobial resistance in the food industry by applying international Codex standards, which are crucial for safeguarding public health.
- Overview of FAO ACT Project: participants were introduced to the goals, activities, and achievements of the ACT project, which supports the fight against AMR
The event was significant for providing food producers with detailed resources and educational materials, including the compendium of Codex standards on foodborne antimicrobial resistance, posters on preventing foodborne AMR, and the "Five Keys to Safer Food".
The training marks an important step in building capacity among food producers and importers to implement Codex standards and actively contribute to combating AMR in the food industry.
This training is one of the events organized by FAO in Mongolia as part of the 'World Food Day' initiative.
