Hot off the press / The Codex Electronic Working Groups Handbook
The long awaited “Codex Electronic Working Groups Handbook” has been published to coincide with the 47th Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC47) taking place from 25 to 30 November 2024 in Geneva.
Electronic working groups (EWGs) have become a widely used tool for advancing work between meetings of Codex Committees. The new handbook offers clear, practical guidance with tips and advice for establishing, managing, participating in, and reporting on EWGs, and it is designed for participants who are enhancing their engagement in Codex activities or leading committee-level efforts for the first time.
“I am delighted to publish this new Codex handbook which was developed to respond to a direct request from Codex Members and Observers on working in EWGs”, said Sarah Cahill, Codex Secretary. “I invite readers to think of it as a living document that can be developed and improved over time”.
The handbook also draws on contributions from both experienced and new EWG chairs, Codex committee leaders, and the Codex Secretariat. It explains participant roles and responsibilities and explains how to effectively lead and participate in Codex standards-setting work through EWGs.
