The theme for this year’s World Food Safety Day celebrations has been unveiled! It is – Food safety: science in action.

The theme recognizes the key role played by science in ensuring the credibility and accuracy of food safety guidance and advice used by governments, food businesses and consumers alike. However, the theme goes further, by reminding us that food can only be safe if the guidance and advice is put into action.

For this reason, the World Food Safety Day slogan remains: “Food safety is everyone’s business”.

World Food Safety Day is jointly facilitated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) and this year, they have produced a “Get started Toolkit” in all six UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish). The Toolkit includes an introduction to the theme, ideas on how to celebrate, key messages, and links to a range of communications assets that will help event organizers promote the Day.

Save the date! A “Get ready” webinar will also take place on 7 April, when the World Food Safety Day teams from FAO and WHO will talk through the theme and communications tools available for this year’s celebration.
