CTF / Burkina Faso country story reveals significant impact from Trust Fund project
A new country story has been published showcasing the benefits of the Codex Trust Fund (CTF). In it, the former Codex Contact Point for Burkina Faso, Sansan Cyrille Régis Kambire, tells how, having succeeded in his application to the CTF, he executed the project to the benefit of his country: “I feel the country has now started to catch up with others when it comes to Codex,” he says.
“Catching up with others” involved learning from fellow African states that have more developed Codex capacities, and that provided mentorship to support Burkina Faso. The National Codex Committee was re-invigorated through training and workshops and played a significant role in the development of a number of Codex texts. In particular, Burkina Faso has benefitted from the development of the Regional standard for unrefined shea butter (Africa) (CXS 325R-2017), a sector that is dominated by women, many of whom are improving their livelihoods thanks to application of the regional standard.
“This is another inspiring story about the Codex Trust Fund,” says Simone Moraes Raszl, Codex Trust Fund Coordinator, “and it really does reinforce the enormous value to countries and to Codex itself of investing into countries that feel they have some “catching up” to do.”
The story has been published in both English and French.
