Join us for the World Food Safety Day 2026 planning webinar!

A planning webinar has been organized for all those intending to celebrate World Food Safety Day this year, on 7 April at 13:00 CEST. Experts from WHO, FAO and the Codex Secretariat will explain more about this year’s theme, From burden to solutions – safe food everywhere.

The theme looks forward to the release by WHO of the estimates of the global burden of foodborne disease (known as the FERG report), in the week before World Food Safety Day. This report follows on from the first FERG report, which was published in 2015.

The FAO, WHO and Codex experts will explain more about the new data release, and also the solutions that their work provides in global efforts to combat foodborne illness.

The second edition of the FERG report provides a broader and deeper analysis than the first report, with estimates that were generated based on more comprehensive data, using disease-specific models and an expanded set of foodborne hazards and health effects. These new estimates supersede former analyses and results published in 2015.
