FAO, OPS, OIRSA and Consumers International to hold webinar in Spanish on safe food in markets
“Welcome to the World Food Safety Day in the Americas”, reads the invitation to a webinar being co-organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), Organización Panamericana de la Salud (OPS), Organismo Internacional Regional de Sanidad Agropecuaria (OIRSA) and Consumers International.
This is a special year to celebrate and recognize the hard work of the people who work throughout the food value chain. This day is dedicated to farmers, transporters, retailers, buyers, sellers and consumers. Special thanks go to all actors along the value chain for being there in crisis situations like COVID-19 and this event will acknowledge their dedication to ensure a continuous safe food supply.
During this day, the emphasis will be on the importance of traditional food markets as the main source of fresh and affordable food for many low-income groups and an important source of livelihoods for millions of urban and rural inhabitants in the Americas. Traditional markets are the heart of the economic activity of many municipalities and are essential for food security. During this day experiences will be shared and calls for action made to ensure the continuity and improvement of traditional markets.
