1:1 Codex Workshop: A Collaborative Approach Between Member States

On 29 August 2024, a significant workshop was held virtually at the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA). The workshop focused on the experiences and practices of the Codex Contact Point and the Codex Coordination Advisory Committee in Saudi Arabia, with the aim of sharing insights with various food and health sectors from the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Dr Eva Alzian from the WHO Regional Office delivered an in-depth presentation on regional food safety issues, highlighting the importance of adhering to international standards. Mr Khalid AlZahrani, the regional coordinator of the Regional Coordinating Committee for the Near East, outlined the development stages of the Codex Coordination Advisory Committee in Saudi Arabia, showcasing the progress and achievements made in this area.
Following this, Ms Hind Alajaji provided questionnaires. Nada Saeed, the Codex Contact Point for Saudi Arabia, elaborated on her role and the various aspects of Codex work from a contact point perspective. She also detailed a strategic roadmap aimed at achieving Codex’s goals and ensuring alignment with national objectives.
The workshop concluded with a discussion on the key outcomes and recommendations for the Kingdom of Bahrain. Participants were encouraged to adopt the suggested practices and deepen their engagement with Codex.
