CCAFRICA delegations lead collaborative efforts in Kuala Lumpur
by the Codex Contact Point of Uganda and the Coordinator for CCAFRICA
The Codex Committee on Fats and Oils (CCFO) held its 29th Session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, bringing together member countries and observers to deliberate on key standards and issues like industrially produced trans fatty acids (iTFAs), deliberations on microbial Omega-3 oils, discussion on the list of acceptable cargoes, matters related to the olive oils, alongside the assessment of four new work proposals in the fats and oils sector. The meeting provided a platform for technical discussions, collaboration, and consensus‑building among Codex members.
Countries from the CCAFRICA region actively participated in the session, contributing their perspectives and expertise to the deliberations. Their engagement underscored the importance of ensuring that Codex standards reflect the diverse needs and realities of all regions, including Africa, where fats and oils play a critical role in food security, trade, and nutrition.
The participation of CCAFRICA members at CCFO29 highlights the region’s commitment to Codex work and its determination to strengthen food standards that support consumer protection and fair practices in the food trade. Their involvement also reinforces the collaborative spirit of Codex, ensuring that decisions are inclusive and globally representative.
