CTF / Two South Sudanese workshops address food safety challenges and national Codex structures
In an effort to create awareness among the high-level decision and policy makers in the country, the Republic of South Sudan organized a National Workshop on Advocacy and dissemination of food safety policy briefs on 23 September 2025. On 24 September, a National stakeholders Consultation Workshop on Codex priority Standards and establishment of National Codex Mirror committees was also convened. Both workshps were convened in Juba, Republic of South Sudan, with support from the Codex Trust Fund.
The workshops were officially opened by Hon. Gloria Nyoka Executive Director for South Sudan National Bureau of Standards and Rita Tulba, the Director General for Quality Control at South Sudan Drug and Food Authority, who also double as the Chairperson for the National Codex Committee.
The events brought together Members of Parliament, members from academia, senior government officials from the ministries of trade and industry, health, agriculture and food security, livestock and fisheries, South Sudan Drug and Food Authority, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, senior officials from the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS), along with country representatives from FAO. In addition to this, there were also participants from the Manufacturers Association of South Sudan, South Sudan Agricultural producers Union, consumer protection organization, the Food Safety Association of South Sudan and media houses.
The 23 September workshop saw key recommendations adopted to address food safety challenges facing the Republic of South Sudan, and on 24 September, key recommendations were adopted to restructure and activate both National Codex committee and the National Codex Mirror committees.
