Jamaican authorities to hold a live discussion for World Food Safety Day

02/06/2021

Earl Stewart Jr, Director of Planning and Research at the Jamaica Customs Agency will open a 2-hour online discussion on 2 June for World Food Safety Day, on the topic of ''What the Food Business Sector and Government Sector are doing to ensure our food is safe to eat.'' Two further topics will take apart the World Food Safety Day theme for this year: "The Present Actions of each Entity to ensure safe food now" and "Future Actions to ensure healthy food."

Noting that everyone has a right to safe food and that “safe food makes us healthy to contribute to economic prosperity, boosting agriculture, market access, tourism and sustainable development,” organizers of this event have planned interviews with food businesses and government entities whose mandate is to implement food safety standards, new technology and oversight in monitoring consumers' concerns.

The event will be held on zoom and various other events will be promoted across ministries’ social media platforms to share “a bit more about what we are doing to keep your food safe and what you can do to raise awareness and inspire action.”
