World Food Safety Day/ Yemen celebrates under the slogan "Food Safety: Prepare for the unexpected"

The Yemeni Organization for Standardization, Metrology and Quality Control celebrated the World Food Safety Day this year, under the theme of "Food Safety: Prepare for the Unexpected". This year's theme emphasizes the need to raise awareness about food safety-related incidents and the importance of being prepared for any eventualities concerning food safety and foodborne diseases.

In his speech delivered on this occasion, the Director-General of the Organization, Engineer Hadid Al-Mas, emphasized that World Food Safety Day serves is an important platform to raise public awareness on issues related to food safety. He explained the significance of early prevention and detection of foodborne diseases, and stressed the importance of fostering cooperation among all relevant stakeholders to enhance food safety.

The Director-General further added that the Organization is conducting ongoing training courses and workshops in the field of food safety to enhance the skills and efficiency of the Organization's specialists and technicians. In addition, the Organization has launched media campaigns to spread awareness among consumers about the importance of adhering to food safety procedures. He stressed that prioritizing food security is crucial in limiting the spread of diseases and epidemics, especially given the challenges currently facing the country.

The Organization works to fully implement all food safety standards and protocols issued by the Codex Alimentarius. The Organization relies on rigorous, science-based procedures to safeguard food safety. This includes continuous monitoring and laboratory testing of imported and locally manufactured commodities, food products, and agricultural goods to verify conformity with approved standards. The Organization also closely monitors the methods of transportation and storage, particularly for highly perishable items like chicken, frozen meat, baby food, and specialized dietary products, to ensure compliance with necessary requirements.
