FAO and WHO join forces for World Food Safety Day in Asia and the Pacific

The FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific and WHO Regional Offices of the World Health Organization for South-East Asia and the Western Pacific are jointly organizing a World Food Safety Day webinar on 1 June. 

The webinar will focus on the World Food Safety Day theme, Food standards save lives, with the aim of highlighting the importance of food standards “from farm to fork”.

In recognition of the 60th anniversary of the Codex Alimentarius Commission this year, Sanjay Dave, former Chairperson of Codex Alimentarius Commission has been invited to open the event with a speech on the theme. The panel will include the regional coordinator of the regional Codex coordinating committees for Asia (CCASIA), as well as Purwiyatno Hariyadi, former Vice-chairperson of the Codex Alimentarius Commission. Representatives of professional organization (Nepal), Ministry of Health (Fiji) a consumer organization (The Philippines) will be the panelists to share their perspective ensuring inclusivity. Sridhar Dharmapuri, Senior Food Safety & Nutrition Officer at the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific will moderate the discussion.

Jessica Kayamori Lopes, Technical Officer in WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific will then speak on a food systems approach to food standards and closing remarks will be given by Gyanendra Gongal, Senior Public Health Officer at WHO Regional Office for South-East Asia.
