World Food Safety Day / Ras Al Khaimah municipality sustains food safety efforts with awards and awareness

In celebration of World Food Safety Day, Ras Al Khaimah Municipality, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), hosted a special ceremony to honour the winners of the second edition of the Ras Al Khaimah Food Safety Award, held under the theme: “Food Safety: Science in Action”. The award aims to encourage and motivate food establishments across the emirate to maintain sustainable compliance, elevate food safety and quality standards, and ultimately prevent or reduce foodborne illnesses.

The event was attended by His Excellency Munther Mohammed bin Shukr Al Zaabi, Director General of Ras Al Khaimah Municipality; Adel Al Suwaidi, Director of the Public Health and Safety Department; along with several general managers, senior government officials, and representatives of food safety teams from various establishments.

Ras Al Khaimah Municipality reaffirmed that this award is part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen best practices in food safety and promote a culture of health and hygiene in line with the RAK Vision 2030, which aspires to build a healthy, safe, and sustainable community.

H.E. Munther bin Shukr Al Zaabi emphasized that the award seeks to inspire food establishments to uphold the highest standards of safety, while recognizing outstanding contributions in this vital sector. He highlighted the municipality’s continued commitment to advancing regulatory tools and enhancing the food ecosystem to positively impact public health and overall quality of life.

He further noted that the award exemplifies the importance of collective action and community-wide collaboration to ensure the availability of safe, nutritious food. This year’s edition includes three main award categories that clearly reflect the strategic direction of the initiative. In addition to the Outstanding Food Establishment category, the award spotlights the contributions of Frontline Food Safety Heroes—those dedicated professionals working tirelessly behind the scenes to uphold food safety standards. The third category, Outstanding Food Establishment Leader, marks a pioneering initiative by the Public Health and Safety Department, making it the first regulatory body in the UAE to introduce such a category. It is a recognition designed to empower leadership figures who are making a real and measurable difference in the field of food safety.
