Video on safety of watermelons produced by the Shanghai Market Supervision and Administration Bureau, China

03/07/2025

The Shanghai Market Supervision and Administration Bureau, China, with support from the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology produced a 3-minute short video addressing a common topic of concern among consumers: "Are seedless watermelons injected with hormones?" and "Are excessively sweet watermelons injected with sodium cyclamate?"

Through in-depth scientific explanations and empirical analyses, the video effectively dispels public misunderstandings and concerns. The Shanghai Market Supervision and Administration Bureau addresses potential food safety blind spots and consumption misconceptions. By fully leveraging the strengths of food safety-related academies, associations, universities, third-party institutions, experts and the media, the Bureau has established a risk communication and science popularization brand column called "Xiaoduan's Food Safety Classroom." This initiative continuously disseminates scientific knowledge on food safety and health, contributing to the promotion of collaborative social governance in food safety.
