World Food Safety Day / Poster winners announced!
The winners of the World Food Safety Day 2025 poster competition are hereby announced! Congratulations to all who submitted their artwork! FAO and WHO experts agonized over the judging as there were many very good submissions, from young people as young as 5 years old, to mature students at university.
“I was really pleased to see that so many young people have engaged with World Food Safety Day messaging and understood the fundamentals of food safety: that it is not something we do in isolation from each other, but that it is a collective endeavour,” said Markus Lipp, Senior Food Safety Officer at FAO, and lead judge.
The WHO judging panel agreed. “I like the idea of allowing kids from 5 years old to participate to this competition,” said scientist Juliana de Oliveira Mota, who chose the winner for the Latin America and Caribbean region. “It’s a wonderful way to get them thinking about good practices early on and it’s great what this poster captures in a simple drawing: the handwashing for hygiene, cooking to kill bacteria, and storing food properly in the fridge. These are all key messages for food safety.”
Commenting on his choice for the Near East region, Akio Hasegawa, Technical Officer in the Department of Nutrition and Food Safety at WHO, said “I had a hard time deciding between two great drawings from young participants! I ended up choosing the puzzle one because it shows how food safety depends on many pieces coming together, from farm to fork.”
Here are the overall winners. Look out for some of the runners up on the @FAOWHOCodex X account, as we reveal more of the excellent posters we received. Congratulations again to all those who entered, and, of course, the runners up and winners.
