World Food Safety Day / Indian food safety consultants spread the word

24/06/2025

NXG Food Safety Works, a food safety consultancy firm, observed World Food Safety Day with a series of science-driven activities across multiple platforms to promote awareness on food safety and the importance of managing unexpected risks through systematic, evidence-based approaches. The activities commenced in the first week of June and built up to World Food Safety Day on 7 June.

  • On 6 June 2025, NXG Food Safety Works hosted a 90-minute live knowledge session titled “Safe to Serve – The Scientific Approach.” Moderated by Sarika Agarwal, Managing Director and Principal Consultant at Food Safety Works, the session featured distinguished speakers Dr H. N. Mishra, Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, and Prakash Ramarao, Senior Leader – Quality & Compliance. The conversation delved into the evolution of food safety systems, highlighted the critical role of data and technology, and emphasized the need to embed a scientific mindset into everyday food operations. The session offered valuable takeaways on how informed choices, scientific vigilance, and process-based thinking can significantly strengthen food safety practices at every level from production to consumption.
  • Food Safety Works conducted engaging food safety awareness activities across various corporate sites. One of the highlights was the “Word Hunt Challenge,” where participants searched through a custom-designed grid to spot commonly used food safety related terms such as hygiene, expiry date, contamination, allergens, and more. This fun and educational activity helped reinforce essential concepts in a way that was relatable to consumers. Another crowd-favorite was the “Guess Who I Am?” label clues game, which challenged employees to identify everyday food products like peanut butter or packaged snacks by reading between the lines of ingredient hints and health claims. These hands-on, interactive formats not only sparked curiosity but also deepened 250+ participants’ understanding of food safety risks and how to be more alert as consumers. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with most participants expressing that the activities made food safety simple, relevant, and actionable.
  • As part of the World Food Safety Day celebrations, Food Safety Works created and shared a consumer-focused presentation titled “Food Safety: Science in Action.” This digital resource was designed to simplify the science behind safe food for the public and was shared widely across social media platforms. The presentation highlighted the impact of unsafe food, the role of science at every step of the food chain, and the power of science to unite global food safety efforts.
  • Food Safety Works hosted the third edition of the India Food Safety Conclave on 20 June. The event brought together stakeholders from across the food ecosystem including industry leaders, academic experts, and regulatory authorities for a deep dive into the latest developments in food safety research, emerging best practices, and evolving regulatory landscapes.
