World Food Safety Day / Upholding standards and leveraging scientific advice for a safer food supply in Syria
On Wednesday 2 July 2025, the Directorate of Food Standardization under the Syrian Arab Organization for Standardization and Metrology (SASMO) organized a workshop titled "World Food Safety Day and the Role of Standards in Ensuring Food Safety" to celebrate World Food Safety Day 2025. The event aimed to emphasize the significance of food safety standards in promoting public health and well-being.
The workshop was attended by members of the Executive Board of SASMO, alongside various staff members actively involved in the formulation and revision of Syrian food standards. The gathering fostered a collaborative environment where experts could share knowledge and experiences related to food safety.
The workshop featured a detailed presentation delivered by an official from the Syrian Codex Contact Point, who provided valuable insights into the role of science in both establishing and adopting effective food standards and recommendations. Highlighting the pivotal role of scientific advancements in the development of food safety regulations and standards.
Participants engaged in discussions that underscored the urgency of regularly updating national food standards to align with the latest scientific findings and global best practices. They collectively recognized that such updates are essential not only for maintaining food safety but also for providing consumers with safe and healthy food options. The workshop thus served as a crucial platform for reinforcing the commitment to continuous improvement in food safety standards in the Syrian Arab Republic.
