World Food Safety Day / Codex committee to hold side event on “Driving innovation in tomorrow’s risk assessment”

03/06/2025

The Codex Committee on General Principles (CCGP) will hold a World Food Safety Day side event to the main CCGP meeting, which will take place 2–6 June. The event, titled “Driving innovation in tomorrow’s risk assessment” will explore advancing innovation in regulatory science, which is critical to support effective scientific advice and decision-making.

The side event aims to present recent developments in risk assessment methodologies and showcase different case studies in the context of various food risks (microbiological, chemical and food fraud risks). A panel discussion will also explore the opportunities and challenges associated with translating these innovations in risk assessment capacity, particularly within the FAO/WHO scientific advisory bodies, and how they fit with the risk analysis principles.

CCGP celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. Since its establishment, CCGP has played a central role in defining the working principles of the Codex Alimentarius, particularly by developing the risk analysis principles that govern the decision-making process in Codex. These principles also serve as a fundamental reference for governments in developing their food policies and regulations, including their risk assessment capacities.
