World Food Safety Day / Lagos State workshop commits to prioritizing food safety
Rasaq Oke, food technologist from Fooddotcomacademy Services in Nigeria, contributed to a food safety workshop organized by the Lagos State Safety Commission with the theme "Food Safety First: Protecting Consumers, empowering Industries" where he spoke on "The Critical Role of Science in Ensuring a Safe Food for in Nigeria" as a Guest Speaker.
He said: “We believed that to bolster consumer protection and strengthen food industry standards, concerted efforts from all stakeholders (experts, regulators and industry leaders, etc) across Nigeria’s food value chain are needed, and that was why the gathering spearheaded, by the Lagos State Safety Commission for the 2025 Food Safety Workshop, is timely.”
The workshop was attended by the Director-General and CEO of Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, who in his welcome address emphasized the urgency of ensuring safe food systems in both formal and informal sectors. The attendees agreed that food safety is central to everyone's health and industrial policies and protecting the public from foodborne risks is not negotiable, and it requires collaboration across all levels—government, private sector, and the final consumers.
Dr Olakunle Oladehin spoke extensively on "Ensuring Food Safety every step of the way", Rasaq Oke spoke on "The Critical Role of Science in Ensuring a Safe Food for all in Nigeria'' and Olagoke-Komolafe Olasunbo spoke on "From kitchen to Customer: Applying Science for Safer Quick Service Restaurant Operations"
