Dear colleagues,

Join Us for the second session of the FAO Webinar Series on Advancing Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization through Farmer Field Schools for small-scale producers.

About the webinar series

Starting July 2025, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is launching a brand-new webinar series as part of the Global Innovation Accelerator on Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (SAM) through Farmer Field Schools (FFS) for small scale producers.

Why this matters?

Sustainable soil tillage is essential for maintaining soil fertility, water retention, and biodiversity, all of which underpin long-term productivity and resilience to climate change. However, smallholder farmers face challenges such as soil degradation, erosion, and limited access to appropriate equipment. Farmer Field Schools (FFS) offer a participatory approach for testing and adapting tillage options to ensure solutions are practical and co-developed with smallholders and respond to local needs. As part of the Global Innovation Accelerator, the second webinar in the series “Tillage options in Conservation Agriculture for smallholder contexts in Africa and Asia" will explore technological dimensions of integrating sustainable tillage into FFS, with emphasis on equipment and conservation agriculture practices. It will feature key innovations, updates on CA-specific tools, and emerging approaches such as strip-tillage, alongside country case studies from Vietnam, Rwanda, and Morocco..

Webinar objectives:

  • Explore opportunities and challenges in scaling up SAM and conservation agriculture through FFS
  • Present and showcase the application of innovative tillage options in Conservation Agriculture (CA) for smallholder contexts in Africa and Asia.
  • Promote cross-regional learning and sharing between SAM And CA stakeholders in Africa and Asia working on smallholder mechanization and sustainable practices.

Organized by:

FAO’s Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (SAM) team of the Plant Production and Protection Division (NSP) and the Global FFS Platform of the Office of Innovation (OIN). This initiative supports the FAO’s Strategic Framework for Better Production, Better Life, and a Better Environment.

📢 The event will be conducted in English.
