Celebrating a Global Innovation Award: Inspiring story from NESFAS & ALC Story
Dear members of the Global FFS Network,
We are pleased to share an inspiring story from one of the 2025 Global Farmer Field School (FFS) Innovation Award laureates, NESFAS, highlighting the power of community-led agroecology on Indigenous knowledge systems.
On 20 November 2025, NESFAS and the Laitsohpliah community in the East Khasi Hills hosted a special gathering of Agroecology Learning Circles (ALCs) to celebrate their recent distinction at the FAO World Food Forum in Rome, where they received the 2025 Global Innovation Award for sustainable agrifood systems.
The celebration brought together communities, partners, traditional leaders, youth, and women, and featured cultural performances, reflections from Indigenous leaders, policymakers, and development partners, as well as testimonies from ALC members. Today, the ALC movement brings together more than 100 learning circles, over 2,000 members (83% women and youth), 210 mapped landscapes, diversified school meals in 26 schools, and 21 community cooperatives, a remarkable example of how farmers are leading innovation for sustainable food systems.
We warmly invite you to read the full story here and share it widely within your networks !
We encourage all FFS practitioners, partners, and communities to draw inspiration from this experience and continue sharing your own success stories, innovations, and lessons learned with the Global FFS community.
