Fishing Zone

The standard fishing zone is defined as the main range of deepths in which the "métier" is practised.

We standardised and grouped all the available fishing zone data, as follow :

Four standard categories were defined covering all the bathymethries frequented by the artisanal fleets. They are the following:

Coastal Waters

All depths <=50

Min <=25 and

Max <=55

Min<=20 and Max<=60

Min<=10 and Max<=75

Medium Range

Max - Min < 100 (*)

Min >25 and

Max <=55

Min >20 and Max<=60

Min >10 and Max<=75

Deep waters

All depths >150

Min >100 and

Max >250

Wide Range

All the others

(*) Valid only if the given range doesn't respect the condition of Coastal waters or Deep waters.

Coastal waters: in this category all the depths under 75 m and mostly under 50 meters depth have to be included (example 1 in the table).

Medium range: all depths below 150 meters and mostly included in the range of depths between 50 and 150 meters (example 2 in the table).

Deep waters: all depths greater than 100 meters and mostly up 150 meters (example 3 in the table).

Wide range: all depths cover a large range starting under 100 meters up to deep waters (example 4 in the table)

Missing data: in the case in which the minimum depth and/or the maximum depth is not recorded (example 5 in the table).
