The standard fishing zone is defined as the main range of deepths in which the "métier" is practised. We standardised and grouped all the available fishing zone data, as follow : Four standard categories were defined covering all the bathymethries frequented by the artisanal fleets. They are the following:
(*) Valid only if the given range doesn't respect the condition of Coastal waters or Deep waters.
Coastal waters: in this category all the depths under 75 m and mostly under 50 meters depth have to be included (example 1 in the table). Medium range: all depths below 150 meters and mostly included in the range of depths between 50 and 150 meters (example 2 in the table). Deep waters: all depths greater than 100 meters and mostly up 150 meters (example 3 in the table). Wide range: all depths cover a large range starting under 100 meters up to deep waters (example 4 in the table) Missing data: in the case in which the minimum depth and/or the maximum depth is not recorded (example 5 in the table).
