This bibliography on fisheries and aquaculture in Zambia was compiled during July and August 1989. It covers various aspects on policy/planning, economics, socio-economics, technology, biology and limnology. Both published and unpublished documents have been included.
The titles are listed by subject in chronological order. For each particular year, they are listed in alphabetical order of author's names. Author and geographical indexes provide further assistance in retrieving the information required.
The references were located through visits to libraries and collections in Zambia and the FAO Fisheries Branch Library in Rome. Computer searches were also carried out from ASFA and AGRIS. In addition, bibliographies and references lists were examined.
At the end of most references an acronym appears in brackets. These abbreviations correspond to the agencies listed below. In the case where an acronym is not given, the bibliographic information was obtained from another document.
The work was carried out as a Minor Field Study funded by the Swedish International Development Authority through the National Swedish Board of Fisheries. In Zambia the Department of Fisheries was the main collaborating authority and ALCOM provided technical assistance and logistic support for the study. Supervision for the work was given by the National Swedish Board of Fisheries and ALCOM.
The authors are indebted to all assistance and guidance given by the above. Sepecial thanks are conveyed to Mr. E.D. Muyanga, Director of Fisheries, in Zambia, who initiated the study and provided essential support and guidance for the fulfilment of the task.
The authors also want to thank FAO in Rome for technical assistance and computer search and the following institutions in Zambia: Department of Fisheries, The University of Zambia Library, National Council for Scientific Research, National Archives and Data Centre (Ministry of Finance).
Efforts were made to make the list of documents as comprehensive as possible. However, it does not claim to be complete. The Department of Fisheries in Zambia and ALCOM would welcome any contributions to improve future editions of the bibliography.
