Two Consultants (one Socio-economist and one Aqualculturist) will assist the Programme in elaborating work plans for the implementation of the pilot project. The consultancy will aim at preparing a document with detailed work plans for the first year and an outline for activities the following three years.
The work will be carried out in close collaboration with ALCOM and national staff. The draft report shall be presented and discussed before departure.
The Consultants shall:
review available information on intermittent harvesting strategies
visit areas in Zambia and Zimbabwe where intermittent harvesting is undertaken and in discussions with Government officials and farmers identify potential areas for pilot activities
identify potential research stations for eventual proposals for station based research
propose detailed terms of references for studies to be undertaken
propose protocols for on-farm and on-station trials
document their findings, conclusions and recommendations in a pilot project report.
