Peru has several colleges and universities with excellent fisheries programmes and graduates from these schools are beginning to influence fisheries programmes in the country. There are some areas where there is a shortage of trained personnel particularly as concerns practical fish culture. It is recommended that personnel of the Ministry of Fisheries should take advantage of exchange training programmes whenever possible.
It is suggested that future trout hatchery or trout farm managers should spend a year or two at the Ingenio Trout Farm near Huancayo where there appears to be an excellent understanding of modern trout farming methods. This should not be construed to mean other hatcheries in Peru are inadequate. However, the Ingenio station has the advantage of being a modern facility where practices can be taught that will be applicable to the large new farms planned and under construction.
Qualified students should be trained at Fisheries Centres in other countries under fellowships sponsored by FAO or other organizations.
