Three new types of crafts were recorded during the present study. Brief descriptions of these crafts are given below:
7.1 Panshi Nauka
7.2 Bara Nauka
7.3 Chota Nauka/Dingi Nauka
This boat is comparatively long and narrow with elongated and gradually sharp pointed ends. Its bow and stern are raised high above the water level. The boat has no hood, but in most cases it possesses a deck made of bamboo splits and wooden planks. It measures 10-15 m in length, 1.2-1.5 m in breadth and 0.8-1.2 m in depth. 5-12 fishermen operate the boat by rowing. This boat is used by the fishermen to operate dool chot jal, ghana ber jal, dal jal and other ber jal. Durability of the boat varies from 6-9 years.
This boat is used by the fishermen for fishing in the Kaptai lake of the district Chittagong Hill Tracts. It is mostly constructed by digging out a single tree trunk. The sides are raised by fitting planks to the dug-out portion of the hull. It has thick blunt masts at both ends and the masts are slightly raised from the water level. The boat is normally provided with a hood made of bamboo mating at the posterior portion of it. The size of the boat measures from 10-12 m, 1.2-2.0 m and 0.8-1 m in length, breadth and depth respectively. It is operated by 3-4 fishermen. The boat is used for operating mainly dak jal, kechki jal, jhap jal, tengra jal etc. Durability of the boat ranges from 10-12 years.
It is a relatively small boat. The whole boat in constructed by hollowing out a single trunk of a tree. The bottom of it is round. It has thick blunt masts at both the ends and they are raised well above the water level. It has no deck or hood. It measures 6-8 m in length, 0.8-1 m in breadth and 0.5-0.8 m in depth. It is usually operated by rowing and sometimes by propelling with a long bamboo pole. It is used for operating fishing gears such as current jal, thela jal, mala jal, patpati jal, katla jal, kechki jal, hook and line, jhaki jal etc.
