FLIGHTS/TRAVEL

St. Lucia has two airports: Hewanorra International Airport at Vieux Fort and George F.L. Charles Airport near Castries. British Airways, Air Jamaica, Air Canada, and BWIA provide international flights. George F.L. Charles just outside Castries is served by LIAT, BWIA, Air Martinique, American Eagle, Helenair, and Eagle Air. Valid passports are required for all visitors, except US and Canadian citizens who possess valid return tickers and ID and stay for less than six months.

Delegates should make every effort to arrive at George F.L. Charles since Hewanorra Airport is on the south of the island, approximately one hour by taxi. In this regard, where feasible and cost-effective, connections via San Juan, Puerto Rico on American Eagle (3 flights per day) should be considered or via Barbados or Trinidad and Tobago on LIAT, Helenair or BWIA.

VISAS

Visas are not required for citizens of the US or Commonwealth countries, or where there is agreement for exemption between the home country and St. Lucia. If in doubt, check with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in your country.

BANKING AND EXCHANGE RATE

The currency of St. Lucia is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar which is linked to the US Dollar at the exchange rate of US$1 to EC$ 2.65 approximately. US Dollars are readily accepted throughout the island. Most hotels will exchange reasonable amounts of foreign currency, and there are change bureaux throughout the island.

CLIMATE

From June to November the day temperature is approximately 23-29C. June to August is the hottest period.

ELECTRICITY

220 Volts AC, 50 cycles.

AIRPORT TAX

There is a Departure Tax of EC$35.00 approximately for all passengers leaving the island.
