This species naturally feeds on decaying organic matter and tolerates the conditions found in intensive compost operations, both in domestic and industrial operations . The resulting residue, or vermicompost, is a valuable soil amendment rich in nutrients. Integrated aquaculture farms can make use of vermicomposting of filtered fish wastes, and for feeding the worms to fish or other livestock.
