The United Arab Emirates consumes an average of 25.3 kg of seafood per person, higher than the global average, and a high proportion of that demand is supplied by importation. Recongnizing the potential of aquaculture to meet that supply-demand gap, the Government of the United Arab Emirates, supported by FAO, is working to support the sustainable development of aquaculture through capacity development at individual, institutional and enabling environment levels through technology transfer and policy development.
