| | The Lake Tanganyika Fisheries Monitoring Programme (LTFMP) officially started in May 1999. It is executed by nationals of the four participating States, with direct financial support provided by Finland until the end of 2001. Details on the LTFMP are given in LTR Technical Document No. 90. Key personnel include the following: The Regional (National) Co-ordinator assumes full and direct responsibility for the effective co-ordination of the field operation in all four lacustrine States. Burundi was designated to provide the first Regional (National) Co-ordinator with the subsequent Co-ordinators selected from the remaining countries on a rotating basis. Mr. Roger Kanyaru ([email protected]), Burundi's Director of Fisheries, was named the first Co-ordinator of the LTFMP. Officers-in-Charge of research stations. LTFMP field activities, in each participating research station, are directed and supervised by an Officer-in-Charge (O-i-C) and carried out by 5 national colleagues per research station. O-i-Cs include: The LTR Coordinator ([email protected]) - continues to manage LTR activities until the end of the year 2000. He works closely with the Regional (National) Coordinator of the LTFMP and all O-i-Cs, providing assistance, advice and on-the-job training in all aspects.The University of Kuopio ([email protected]) assumes overall responsibility for the scientific coordination of the LTFMP. This includes (a) provision of regular and timely supervision missions in order to supply (i) verification of the sampling methodology and (ii) provision of on-the-job training as required; (b) in close co-operation with the Regional (National) Coordinator to insure completion of LTFMP annual reports and their official transmission to the authorities of all four lacustrine States. |
