Stakeholders meet to discuss safe fishing vessel design in Sri Lanka

Colombo - Sri Lanka, 19/08/2022 - 19/08/2022

The Ministry of Fisheries of Sri Lanka and FAO organized a stakeholder meeting on fishing vessel design adaptation to climate change. The meeting was attended by 24 key stakeholders and discussed safety and design improvements for small-scale fiberglass reinforced polyester (FRP) un-decked fishing boats of 19 to 23 feet in length. The meeting also discussed potential fuel efficiency improvements for decked FRP longline vessels of 35 to 60 feet in length. An FAO – Norwegian Government funded project is assisting the sector in Sri Lanka to increase the safety of vessels used in small-scale fisheries and to adapt to climate change.
