18 to 20 percent energy saving in long line fisheries in Grenada: the bulbous bow innovation
15/07/2024
Rising fuel costs and climate change have created the need to reduce fuel consumption and emission of greenhouses gases. Grenada’s long line fishing fleet is innovating to save expenses on fuel and to increase its profitability, thanks to an FAO initiative and with financial support from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad). The introduction of a bulbous bow improves fishing vessel performance, increases fuel efficiency, vessel stability, and its seakeeping capacity. The adoption of bulbous bows by the long liner fleet in Grenada will benefit the national fishing industry, promoting fishing sustainability and economic growth.
