Step-by-step construction of an open fishing boat made of fibreglass reinforced plastic

Colombo, Sri Lanka, 8 November 2024 - FAO produced a practical video showing the construction of an open fishing boat made of fibreglass reinforced plastic (FRP) in practical steps.
Please find it on FAO’s YouTube channel.
This step-by-step boat construction video describes the process of building an open fishing boat made of FRP. It contains guidance on the preparation of the plug, mould and the boat construction. This video shows the construction of a 23ft open fishing boat designed for coastal fishers in Sri Lanka. The boat is equipped with more buoyancy material compared to the traditional boats used by fishers in Sri Lanka. Therefore, it cannot sink. If filled with water the boat will remain afloat, and the fishers can scoop out the water.
This video was made possible through collaboration by the FAO Representation in Sri Lanka, with Dhanusha Marine ltd., FAO’s Fishing Technology and Operations Team (NFIFO), the Ministry of Fisheries of Sri Lanka and the Government of Norway.
