FAO is preparing educational material to reduce the risks of collisions and other accidents at sea.
The Know the Rules-of-the-Road & Signals poster provides small-scale fishers with knowledge of the most important maritime traffic rules, as well as internationally agreed signals and signs that are important for their activities at sea. The Know your Night-time Lights poster aims to assist small-scale fishers with the identification of other vessels at night, by showing the night-time lights of various types of vessels.
These posters are part of a set of training materials on safety at sea for small-scale fishers. The materials aim to raise awareness of the maritime traffic rules, based on IMO ColRegs (IMO Convention on International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea, 1972). The posters are now available in four languages.
