Food loss and waste

FAO through the statistics division supports countries’ capacity development to collect food loss data and compile the Food Loss Index.
Capacity development activities include:
- Providing methodological guidance to countries for measuring the FLI.
- Providing training and technical assistance to enhance capacity to implement postharvest loss surveys, collecting data on food loss along the supply chain, and to compile SDG indicator 12.3.1.a.
- Preparation and publication of guidelines in measurement of food loss and reports on pilot studies done in various countries.
- An e-learning course on the FLI.
