Workshop on national emissions inventories and mitigation plans in agriculture, land use, land use change and forestry
21 - 23 July 2014, San José, Costa Rica
The United Nation Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) requires countries to periodically submit their national inventories of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through National Communication (NCs) and Biennial Update Reports (BURs).
FAO, REDD+ Project for Strengthening South - South Cooperation and the UN-REDD Mesoamerican Programme are jointly organizing a workshop for the Mesoamerican region. The workshop aims at identifying technical and institutional gaps and steps needed to improve capacities of member countries, in relation to their national GHG reporting processes. The focus is on the agriculture and Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) components of the Biennial Update Reports. With over eighty participants from fifteen different countries, the workshop will provide a platform for sharing experiences among countries in the region, and helping to identify useful data analysis tools.
The workshop will gather high-level representatives of the Ministries of Agriculture, National Institutes of Statistics and Agencies responsible for National Forest Monitoring Systems and National Emission Inventories for the Agriculture and LULUCF sectors.
