Regional workshop on FAO data collection, processing and dissemination system of food and agriculture statistics

28/03/2011

28 March-1 April 2011, Novotel Siam Square, Bangkok

Background

FAO’s work on the collection and dissemination of world-wide statistical information on food and agriculture represents a core element of the Organization’s mandate. In order to do this the Organization, in turn, depends on countries to provide this information in a timely manner. The cooperation of all countries is therefore extremely important to enhance the coverage and quality of our database and ensure that key indicators on food security and agricultural development are available to our users, which include governments, international organizations, businesses and general public.

The workshop will explain and discuss FAO data requirements of production, trade and Food Balance Sheet (FBS) data, and related international standards and methodologies. It is designed to help countries better understand these subjects and thus better accomplish the requirements of the FAO questionnaires. At the same time, the related knowledge of international standards and methodologies will also help to improve statistical practices in countries.
