Statistics for Transformation of Agriculture to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The Eighth International Conference on Agricultural Statistics (ICAS VIII) will be held under the auspices of the Committee on Agricultural Statistics of International Statistical Institute (ISI-CAS).

Conference focus

The conference is open to statisticians, economists, policy makers, analysts and researchers working in the broad domain of agriculture including fishery and forestry. The theme of the conference is “Statistics for transformation of agriculture to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)''. The theme addresses the challenge of meeting huge data demands for monitoring the SDGs, particularly those related to food and agriculture sector.

Potential themes for the sessions and topic of papers include the following:

  • Data Analysis / Data Integration
  • Data Sources / Data Collection/ Data Quality
  • Data Dissemination & Communication
  • Use of statistics for policy making & research
  • Food Security, Poverty, Rural Development and Social Dimensions of Agriculture
  • Sustainable Agricultural Production and Consumption
  • Natural Resource use in Agriculture
  • Climate Change and Environmental Issues
  • Social protection and risk mitigation measures in agriculture
  • Capacity building in Agricultural Statistics

The conference programme, usually having six parallel sessions on selected sub-themes, will be prepared by the Scientific Committee taking into account the proposals for technical contribution in response to an open call received through Conference website and the suggestions of international development agencies and /or sponsors.

Conference profile

Besides opening session on 18 November, the main conference will be take place for three days (19-21 November) which will include oral presentations of papers in technical sessions, panel discussions, keynote speeches and poster sessions. Side conferences/ workshops on topics of current professional interests and special training events are also being planned by partner institutions.

Organizers and Partners

Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India of India is organizing the event in collaboration with many other national institutions, with the support of International partners like African Development Bank and Asian Development Bank, EUROSTAT, FAO, USDA.

The Organizers are actively looking for additional partners to enrich the scientific content of the conference, sponsor side events or sessions, or use the occasion to show case their products and services. All contributions will be duly recognized.
