This meeting is a Statutory Body of FAO, organized regularly for more than 40 years by FAO in collaboration with regional institutions. Since 1994, these meetings have been part of the activities of the Working Group FAO-OEA/CIE-IICA on Agricultural and Livestock Statistics for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Purpose

The purpose of the meeting is to review the state of food and agricultural statistics in the Region, to advise Member Nations on the development and standardization of agricultural statistical services and to convene study groups or other Subsidiary Bodies of national experts required for this purpose. In particular, new technological and methodological advances for the improvement and development of the national programmes on Food and Agricultural Statistics will also be presented.

Participants

Senior Officers of the National Institutions from the Region responsible for food and agricultural statistics. International organisations concerned with the development of statistical system in the Region.

Questionnaire

All countries of the region, whether attending the session or not, are kindly requested to complete a questionnaire on their food and agricultural statistics activities and submit to FAO by 15 October 2005. The information provided will be analysed and the main findings presented at the meeting.
