High Level Stakeholders Meeting on the Global Strategy - From Plan to Action

3 - 5 December 2012, FAO & WFP Headquarters, Rome
The meeting is held in English only
Objective
The aim of the meeting is to officially launch the Implementation of the Global Strategy for a renewed Coalition of Partners to support the Strategy. The meeting will provide an opportunity to update the stakeholders with the status of the activities carried out so far under the umbrella of the Global Strategy to Improve Agriculture and Rural Statistics.
The preparatory work done by the Partners to support and operationalize the Strategy, since the Meeting of Resource Partners in October 2011, will be presented. As side events the meetings of the Global Steering Committee and Global Executive Board of the Strategy will also be organized. The three day event will include High Level Expert Meetings on policy monitoring and selected methodological issues of the Global Strategy.
The themes include:
• Assessing Country Capacity to Produce Agricultural and Rural Statistics
• Master Sampling Frames (MSF) for Agricultural and Rural Statistics
• New Metrics to Measure and Monitor Performance in Agriculture and Food Security
The Expert Meetings will act as Scientific Committee to advise the Global Office on technical content and best modalities of harnessing the methodological developments on the above technical topics.
Expected outcome
The conclusions of the expert meetings will guide the research agenda and other technical activities of the Global and Regional Action Plans. The methodological work on Country Assessment will be finalized and adopted as a tool for obtaining baseline information and for periodic monitoring of country capacities. The meeting will increase the visibility of the Global Strategy among stakeholders.
Participants
Resource partners, Participating partners, Leading experts, Premier research institutions and selected countries representatives have been invited.
