The key objectives of the International Conference on Food and Nutritional Security in Niger (ICFNS) are to:

- better understand the causes of different forms of food and nutritional insecurity in Niger and in the Sahel
- evaluate the relevance of responses up until now
- share knowledge and good practices in order to propose alternative strategies to move towards more effective food and nutrition security.

Participants will share scientific, technical, cultural, ethical experiences and examples of good practice which can be used in political and operational decision-making for defining and implementing an efficient and sustainable food security strategy for Niger.

Analysis and recommendations which come out of the meeting will promote the process of improving the performance of various agro-forestry-pastoral and water production systems in Niger and in the Sahel. In Sahelian countries, such as Niger, the stability of food security is threatened by a number of factors related to the national and international markets, stocking systems, transformation of agro-forestry-pastoral and water products and the locations of imports and food aid in the context of food security.
