CFS side event: Harnessing climate finance and social protection for inclusive agrifood system transformation

(Italy), Hybrid Event, 25/10/2024

This session presents findings from a recent review of social protection for rural populations within the existing portfolio of the UNFCCC climate funds that explored how to scale-up and strengthen the role of social protection in inclusive climate action for rural and agrifood system dependent populations. Building on the findings of the review alongside country experiences in designing, implementing and financing social protection programmes that deliver inclusive climate action, it will bring together key stakeholders from different CFS constituencies to reflect on their experiences of bridging the gap between those working on social protection, agrifood systems and climate change to deliver sustainable, resilient and inclusive food systems that leave no-one behind.

Organizers: FAO; Green Climate Fund; UK, FCDO; Germany, BMZ

Objectives:

  • Raise awareness of the role of social protection in delivering inclusive and resilient climate action for agrifood system dependent rural populations
  • Explore key challenges and opportunities in directing climate finance towards social protection for inclusive agrifood system transformation
  • Foster collaborations and joint action across CFS constituencies to address these challenges and scale up and strengthen the use of social protection for inclusive climate action in rural settings.
