Modifying agricultural surveys

To mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, decision makers urgently need information on disruptions to food systems, livelihoods and food security. Agriculture accounts for a major part of developing economies, with large shares of the population reliant on it for food and income. It is, therefore, essential to gather information on the impact of COVID-19 on agricultural holdings and smallholder farmers to support targeted responses.National agricultural data-collection processes in developing countries often involve face-to-face interviews, which are currently impossible due to COVID-19-related social-distancing measures. National statistical systems have asked for support to adapt their current survey tools to employ virtual collection methods, so they can continue to gather crucial food and agricultural statistics and respond to new data demands arising from the pandemic.
