Assessing the impact of COVID-19 on food insecurity at global, regional and national level

The COVID-19 outbreak demands new and rapid data and a shift in priorities. Real-time information helps to evaluate the impact of the outbreak on food security as it evolves. Food-security analysis requires the measurement of changes in people’s access to food and examines the underlying causes. The NENA regions identified as priority areas the food security data collection and analysis, the monitoring of impacts of COVID-19 on moderate and severe food insecurity and the use of the derived information to inform policies. Countries in the region require access to sound and reliable data to assess the status of food insecurity in the population as well as the impact of COVID-19 on food security, in order to build an appropriate macro-economic response.
