Global experts united to advance food allergen risk assessment – Video and report out!
Food allergens affect millions of people worldwide, posing significant challenges for food safety, consumer protection, and international trade. To help address these challenges, FAO and WHO convened a global Expert Consultation on Risk Assessment of Food Allergens at FAO Headquarters in June 2025.
Listen HERE to what the lead international experts who participated in the consultation, had to say about why this work matters and what it means for governments, food businesses, and consumers.
The experts highlighted the importance of developing clear, practical, and science-based frameworks that can be implemented across sectors and regions. They emphasized that effective allergen risk management depends on both quantitative and qualitative assessment methods, ensuring informed decisions even when data are limited.
The outcomes of this consultation support national authorities in adopting evidence-based policies, help food businesses apply consistent practices, and ultimately provide safer food options for people with allergies.
