The 2025 World Food Safety Day campaign and theme has launched

The 2025 joint FAO and WHO World Food Safety Day campaign launched today revealing this year's theme: 'Food Safety: science in action.’
Since 2018 FAO and the World Health Organization come together every year to raise awareness about the importance of food safety.
This year, the two organizations are focusing on the crucial role that science plays in advancing research and knowledge to keep food safe. But the campaign emphasizes the vital role of all stakeholders—governments, businesses, and consumers—in putting that knowledge into action through effective policies, practices, and responsible choices to safeguard food at every stage.
In a joint video message, FAO’s Director of the Agrifood Systems and Food Safety Division, Corinna Hawkes, and the WHO’s Director of the Department of Nutrition and Food Safety, Luz De Regil, they stated:
“it is not only the knowledge of science that keeps our food safe. It is rather our actions, actions based on the guidance and advice developed by scientists, that ensure that our food is safe.”
The FAO and the WHO have produced a “Get started Toolkit” in all six UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish) to help you organize your World Food Safety Day activity and share them with us. The Toolkit walks you through the theme, and provides ideas on how to celebrate, with key messages and links to a range of communications assets to help event organizers promote the Day.
Save the date! A “Get ready” webinar will take place on 7 April, with World Food Safety Day teams from FAO and WHO discussing the theme and communications tools available for this year’s celebration.
Other updates and events will be announced over the coming weeks, so keep checking the World Food Safety Day website, and the @FAOWHOCodex X account.
