Rome, Paris, Barcelona – The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM), the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA) and the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) are pleased to announce the publication of the new executive brief “Pathways for Agrifood Systems Transformation and Regional Cooperation in the Mediterranean”. This publication sheds light on the unique opportunities and challenges in transforming agrifood systems in the Mediterranean, a goal that is central to achieving sustainable development across the region and worldwide.
Amidst climate change, resource scarcity, conflicts and growing food security concerns, Mediterranean agrifood systems are at a critical juncture. Building on the SFS-MED Platform’s experience, this brief suggests innovative approaches tailored to the region’s specific needs, highlighting potential for collaborative networks in accompanying the agrifood systems transformation efforts of Mediterranean countries. By providing insights into policy coherence, governance, sustainable finance, and shared learning, the brief sets a foundation for meaningful actions that can drive sustainable growth and transformation in the region.
With practical recommendations for policymakers and stakeholders, this executive brief aims to serve as both a resource and a call to action for a change of route at the regional level.
